Faq's..

Q: Is there a lot of maintenance required for decking?

Q: What is the lifespan of a deck?
A: Looked after a well built deck should last for up to 15-20 years, all timbers we use are treated and from sustainable sources.

Q: Is decking expensive?
A: Not in comparison to say a patio, there is generally less groundwork's to do, so they are less labour intensive.

Q: Are decks slippery?
A: The design of decking now days means that any surface water should quickly drain so there is less chance of them becoming slippery. Although a deck that is kept clean will have less chance of becoming slippery.

Q: I have a uneven and slopping garden, can I install a deck?
A: Yes. a deck is the ideal solution to uneven and slopping areas.

Q: Do you supply free quotations.
A: Yes, absolutely. We supply free no obligation quotes.

Q: Do decks need planning permission?

A: For all but the simplest, low-level garden deck, property owners should satisfy themselves that planning regulations do not apply to their proposed structure.

In addition to contacting the Local Authority, we recommend that you talk to your neighbours about your plans. Neighbour objections are the most usual reason for planning refusal or enforcement notices after completion. Your Local Authorities can insist that structures are dismantled and removed where consent  should have been obtained.

Q: Should I have a hardwood or softwood deck.

A: Hardwood and softwood are broad biological terms used to describe species of wood. The terms have nothing to do with the physical hardness of the wood. Hardwoods come from broadleaved trees and softwood species from coniferous, evergreen trees.

Over 80% of all decks are made from pressure treated softwood because of their availability, ease of working and cost. Hardwoods come in a range of attractive colours. They tend to be more expensive and require more care to work with than softwood, but it's your choice which you prefer.

Q: Are the treatments used in protecting softwood decking timber in any way harmful?
A: No. Timber decking is entirely safe - even for pets and plants. The strictly controlled process of impregnating the timber means that the preservative substances found in decking are 'locked' into the wood - even when in contact with water.
